Why Do We Hurt Each Other?

Why do we hurt each other
When we know it’s wrong to do?
To see the pain in someone’s eyes
The agony that quickly ensues

Is it the chance to “Get Even?”
For something someone has done?
It becomes a shallow victory
The false feeling that you’ve won

There’s a time and place for everything
If indeed there is a need
But not when it brings embarrassment
Causing one’s heart to bleed

To retaliate is not a Godly trait
For it causes Him to frown
Why would anybody risk
Jewel removal from their crown?
