Cock A Doodle Doo!
“Cock a doodle doo,” it crowed
It’s presence it made known
Break of dawn had arrived
Morning’s reveille had been blown
Out of a warm bed, you rise
Whether you want to or not
You know that it will continue
Either endure it or rooster shot
“Cock a doodle doo,” it crowed
On a fence post, it stood
Proud and defiant it was
Making as much noise as it could
Sometimes you want to strangle
That feathered alarm clock
Tie its neck into a knot
And one day cook it in a crock
Some say get used to it
It’s only doing what it knows
But could it just one time
Change the hour that it blows?
“Cock a doodle do,” it crows
Every morning is the same
Sleeping in? Out of the question
I’ve no one but myself to blame
Raising chickens was my idea
The consequences I now pay
That blasted rooster will crow
Until we finally eat him one day!
