Mommy Mouse's Rebuke

Mommy mouse, she shook her head
“Children, don’t go out to play”
“I saw momma fox and her pup”
“Going out to hunt today”

“Mommy bunny, she is staying in”
“And her babies will stay in too”
“It’s not worth taking a chance”
“If caught there’s nothing I can do.”

“Mommy hawk, she is out there”
“Soaring high in the morning breeze”
“If she sees you out there”
“In her talons you she will squeeze”

“And watch out for mommy snake”
“She may come down our hole”
“If she does, remember my words”
“Do exactly as you were told”

“We live in a very dangerous world”
“That’s why we have so many holes”
“Always make sure to one you’re close
If danger, it does unfold”

“Now, I know that you are hungry”
“And our food, it is all outside”
“Whether we eat or get eaten”
“Depends on how well we can hide”

“To them you are only a mouthful”
“But to me you are my precious child”
“It’s up to you if you go out”
“Please use all your cunning and guile”

“Because I can’t always be with you”
“Soon more brothers and sisters will arrive”
“I am trying to do my very best”
“To keep all of you safe and alive”

“So, listen to my words closely”
“And the predators will leave you alone”
“Stop! Look! Before you leave “
“Or for your failure, you’ll have to atone”
