The Death Row Saint
On Death Row, he now sat
Awaiting his time to come
Appeals, all had been denied
Tonight he would succumb
His last meal had been delivered
Comfort food was his call
In silence, alone he now ate
Knowing time he couldn’t stall
Almost midnight they came for him
The clergy gave him last rites
The warden came, said goodbye
It would finally be over tonight
To a gurney, he was strapped
Needles inserted into his arms
The clock struck midnight, it began
He was calm and not alarmed
Jesus was waiting at the gate
Welcomed him with open arms
He had accepted Christ as savior
Repented of committing deadly harm
Walking those streets of gold
He met the one he had killed
Smiling, they embraced each other
Each destiny had been fulfilled
